Unit 2 Docket No. STN 50-529 Reactor Vessel Material Surveillance Capsule File: 94-056-026 This letter is being provided to transmit a report of the PVNGS Unit 2 analysis of the reactor vessel material surveillance capsule.

The report presents the results of the examination of the Unit 2 surveillance capsule removed from the 137'ocation.

This is the first capsule to be removed from the reactor in accordance with the reactor vessel material surveillance program which monitors the effects of neutron irradiation on the Unit 2 reactor pressure vessel materials under operating conditions.

The 137 capsule was removed from the reactor vessel during the Unit 2 refueling outage (April24, 1993), after 4.54 effective fullpower years (EFPY) of plant operation and shipped to the Westinghouse Science and Technology Center Hot Cell Facility for testing.

The removal of the capsule is in accordance with Unit 2 Technical Specification surveillance requirement 4.4.8.1.2, Table 4.4.5, which lists capsule number three as having a withdrawal time of between four and six EFPY.

The enclosed report summarizes the testing and post irradiation data obtained from the surveillance capsule and is being submitted pursuant to 10 CFR 50, Appendix H.
