Mr. James P. O'Reilly, Regional Administrator U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region II 101 Marietta Street, NW, Suite 2900 Atlanta, Georgia 30303 Re: Catawba Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2 Docket No. 50-413 and 50-414

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

In my August 24, 1983 letter concerning the completion dates for replacement of undersized motor operators for Westinghouse valves (Significant Deficiency Report SD 413-414/82-09), it was stated that the work for Units 1 and 2 would be completed by October 15, 1983 and December 30, 1983, respectively. Presently all Unit 1 work is complete, except for two safety injection valves and one residual heat removal valve. Completion has been delayed due to the reordering of the necessary bolting material. The work for both units will be completed by February 1, 1984.

Very truly yours,
