Dear Sirs:

The NRC Operations Center was notified at approximately 11:00 MST on February 15, 1985, via the Emergency Notification System, of a potentially reportable occurrence regarding a failure of a diesel generator to start due to a suspected design deficiency potentially affecting both diesels.

As a result of further investigation and evaluation of the occurrence, we have determined that the event was not reportable within the requirements of either 10CFR 50.72 or 10CFR 50.73.

Failure of the diesel generator to start was found to be a result of damaged fiber optics cables affecting only one diesel generator rather than the suspected design deficiency.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.
