GENERIC LETTER 83-28 ITE"5 4.2.1-AND 4.2.2 The staff is continuing its review of your submittals dated November 8,1983 and June 24,1985 in response to Generic Letter 83-28 concerning generic follow-up actions to the Salem ATWS event.

Enclosed are our evaluations of item 4.2.1 (Preventative Maintenance Program for Reactor Trip Breakers) and item 4.2.2 (Maintenance and Trending).

We conclude that your positions on items 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 are acceptable provided one confirmatory item is addressed. Specifically you are requested to confirm that the undervoltage trip (UVT) device roller rivet-armature clearance is measured with the UVT armature down in the energized position, as recommended in IE Notice NO. 65-58.

You are requested to provide confirmation that this one item is included in your procedures within 6D days of the date of this letter.
