SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-344/97-04; 72-17/97-04

Dear Mr. Quennoz:

On September 29 through October 2,1997, the NRC completed an inspection at your Trojan

Nuclear Plant. sThe enclosed report presents the scopa and results of that inspection.

Major activities reviewed as par 1 of this inspection included fuel debris processing, preparation

for pouring concrete for a portion of the independent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) pad, and

control and release of potentially contaminated material.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its

enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).-

Should you have any questions concerning this inspection, we will be pleased to discuss them

with you.
