SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-298/98-17 AND NOTICE OF VIOLATION

Dear Mr. Horn:

From May 4-8,1998, a physical security inspection was conducted at your Cooper Nuclear

Station reactor facility. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that inspection.

Areas examined during the inspection included portions of your physical security program.

During this inspection, one violation of NRC requeements was identified. The violation

involved the improper processing of visitors into the plant protected area.

The NRC has concluded that information regarding the reason for the violation and the

corrective actions taken to correct the violation and prevent recurrence have already been

adequately eddressed. Therefore, you are not required to respond to this letter unless the
