==SUMMARY==
OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE SEPTEMBER 1986 Indian Point Unit #3 returned to service on September 10, 1986 at 1201 hours following a 61 day turbine maintenance outage. For the remainder of the reporting period Indian Point Unit # 3 was synchronized to the bus for a total of 548.05 hours, producing a gross generation of 471,680 Mwe.
On September 05 at 1558 hours, a control circuit ground fault on a motor operated disconnect switch of a generator transmission line in the Buchanan switchyard opened while the unit was operating at 56 percent power. A main turbine generator trip and a subsequent reactor trip occurred automatically.
. An investigation determined that the grounds resulted from moisture that had entered underground conduit. To prevent recurrence, new conduit and wiring wer,e '
installed for the control circuitry and maintenance was performed on the junction boxes. The unit returned to service on. September 8, 1986 at 0107 hours.
On September 09, 1986 at 1000 hours, an automatic unit trip was initiated by low steam generator water level which was caused by the tripping of f 31 Main Boiler Feed Pump. Water entering the Main Boiler Feed Pump control oil system caused imbalances in the hydraulic' controls and caused #31 Main Boiler Feed Pump to
' trip. The oil system was cleaned and a mispositioned Boiler Feed Pump seal was monitored to verify that it would perform as designed by automatically self-seating during pump operation.
The unit was returned to service on September 10th at 1201 hours and continued to produce electricity for the remainder of the reporting period.

. OPERATING DATA REPORT s

Docket No. 50-286 Date 10-01-86 Completed By L. Kelly Telephone 914-739-8200 OPERATING STATUS

1. Unit Name: Indian Point No. 3 Nuclear Power Plant Notes
2. R; porting Period: September 1986
3. Licensed Thermal Power (MWt): 3025
4. N;meplate Rating (Gross MWe): 1013
5. D; sign Electrical Rating (Net MWe): 965
6. M ximum Dependable Capacity (Gross MWe): 965
7. M:ximum Dependable Capacity (Net MWe): 930
8. If Changes Occur in Capacity Ratings (Items Number 3 through 7) Since Last Report.

Give Reasons: #33 Low pressure turbine was modified by replacing two rows of blades with b,ffla assemblies. This modificaiton reduced the MDC (Gross) from 1000 Mwe to 965 Mwe and r~duced the MDC (net) from 965 Mwe to 930 Mwe.

9. Power Level to Which Restricted, If Any (Net MWe): 930 Net MWe
10. Reasons-for Restrictions, If Any: # 33 Low pressure turbine was modified by replacing two rows of blades with baffle assemblies.

SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE SEPTEMBER 1986 Indian Point Unit #3 returned to service on September 10, 1986 at 1201 hours0.0139 days
0.334 hours
0.00199 weeks
4.569805e-4 months
following a 61 day turbine maintenance outage. For the remainder of the reporting period Indian Point Unit # 3 was synchronized to the bus for a total of 548.05 hours5.787037e-5 days
0.00139 hours
8.267196e-6 weeks
1.9025e-6 months
, producing a gross generation of 471,680 Mwe.

On September 05 at 1558 hours0.018 days
0.433 hours
0.00258 weeks
5.92819e-4 months
, a control circuit ground fault on a motor operated disconnect switch of a generator transmission line in the Buchanan switchyard opened while the unit was operating at 56 percent power.

September 8, 1986 at 0107 hours0.00124 days
0.0297 hours
1.76918e-4 weeks
4.07135e-5 months
.

On September 09, 1986 at 1000 hours0.0116 days
0.278 hours
0.00165 weeks
3.805e-4 months
, an automatic unit trip was initiated by low steam generator water level which was caused by the tripping of f 31 Main Boiler Feed Pump.

The unit was returned to service on September 10th at 1201 hours0.0139 days
0.334 hours
0.00199 weeks
4.569805e-4 months
and continued to produce electricity for the remainder of the reporting period.
