SHUTDOWN GREATER THAN 72 HOURS DUE TO LEAKING PRESSURIZER SAFETY VALVE
On July 13, 2014, V.C. Summer Nuclear Station (VCSNS), Unit 1 identified that a pressurizer safety valve was leaking by. Operators referred to appropriate response procedures, staffed the incident response team to review the event, and proceeded with an orderly plant shutdown.
The Technical Specification limit for identified reactor coolant system (RCS) leakage (10 gpm) was not exceeded. The plant is currently in hot shutdown (Mode 4) with RCS cooldown and depressurization in progress to cold shutdown (Mode 5) in order to replace the affected pressurizer safety valve.
The NRC resident inspectors are closely moni toring the licensee's evaluation and repair activities.
This preliminary notification is issued for information only. 
Region II received initial notification of this occurrence by telephone call from the licensee at approximately 4 p.m. EDT on July 13, 2014. South Carolina officials have been notified. The information presented herein has been discussed with the licensee and is current as of 1:00 p.m. on July 14, 2014.
