Please find enclosed a copy of the final NUREG-1437, Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants, Supplement 56, Regarding Fermi 2 Nuclear Power Plant. The final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) is being issued as part of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRCs) process to decide whether to issue a renewed operating license to DTE Electric Company for Fermi 2 Nuclear Power Plant (Fermi 2). In the final SEIS, the NRC staff determined that the adverse environmental impacts of license renewal for Fermi 2 are not so great that preserving the option of license renewal for energy planning decision-makers would be unreasonable. In the context of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, NRC staff determined that no historic properties would be affected by the proposed action (license renewal). The final SEIS will accompany the final Safety Evaluation Report to be considered in the Commissions license renewal decision making process.
