Written Statement for the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board January 15, 2016 Hearing on Grantng Florida Power and Light the Right to Raise Turkey Point Cooling Canal Temperatures from 100 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit

Dear Messieurs:

Please take the following information in to considering when granting Florida Power and Light the right to raise the cooling canal temperatures from 100 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit for the Turkey Point nuclear power plant:

1. 1 That any raising of the cooling canal temperature be temporary.

2. That any temporary period granted only be as long for a pipeline and facilities to use the over 90 million gallons of water being produced each day at the Miami-Dade County's South District Wastewater Treatment Facility for use in cooling the Florida Power and Light's nuclear and conventional power plants at Turkey Point.

Requiring that this reclaimed water be made available for cooling, which is already being produced, to be use<;! and by having it as .an_ ~lt~m'"!tive source _of make up _cooling water now; will allow the canals and nuclear reactor cooling water temperatures to remain at the lower and safer levels in a way that will allow for the continued production of reliable, nuclear power with low greenhouse gas emissions, while protecting and preserving the natural environment, endangered species, and Florida's regional public water supplies.
