Subject:

Texas A&M University Nuclear Science Center Research Reactor Environmental Assessment -State of Texas review Mr. Mulder, Attached is the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the renewal of the facility operating license for the Texas A&M University Nuclear Science Center research reactor located in College Station, TX. The NRC license renewal review includes an opportunityfor a review of the EA by the State of Texas. Please review the attached EA and contactme with any comments, questions or concerns. We will attempt to resolve any issuessuch that we can obtain your concurrence with our planned issuance of the EA in the Federal Register. We typically request a 30 day response deadline, but in this case, weare nearing the completion of the review and would like to get this back as soon as possible.

Please note, as highlighted in this draft EA, that it was reviewed by your office on June 11, 2010. However, due to the time that has transpired since that review, we request anotherreview. No significant changes have occurred, but a few of the changes involve: 1) anupdate to the Environmental Justice section using updated census data; 2) a clarification on the chemicals routinely used at the facility; and 3) revised radiological dose calculations for the routine release of Argon-41. All changes remain within federal regulatory limits.

If you have no comments, an email response is satisfactory.

Since this EA is pre-decisional (draft) information, please don't release it to the public.
