OF MAY 20, 2008, PUBLIC MEETING ON NRC=S INSPECTION AND ASSESSMENT OF ENTERGY=S INVESTIGATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF CONTAMINATED GROUNDWATER CONDITIONS AT INDIAN POINT On May 20, 2008, NRC Region I conducted a public meeting to report on the results of its inspection and assessment of Entergy=s investigation and characterization of contaminated groundwater conditions at the Indian Point Energy Center that were first discovered in September 2005. The meeting was held at the Colonial Terrace, Cortlandt Manor, New York. A list of NRC, USGS, and Entergy attendees is attached.
=S INSPECTION AND ASSESSMENT OF ENTERGY
The agenda for the meeting was comprised of: (1) NRC-sponsored informational poster sessions on various topics of current interest such as Dry Cask Storage of Spent Fuel, License Renewal, Plant Operations, Emergency Planning Issues, and Groundwater Characterization and Assessment as performed by the United States Geological Survey and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission; (2) invited poster sessions sponsored by non-governmental organizations such as Riverkeeper, Inc., and the Indian Point Safe Energy Coalition; (3) a presentation by Entergy describing its actions, response, and accomplishments relative to their investigation and characterization of onsite groundwater contamination conditions; and, (4) a presentation by NRC representatives relative to the inspection and assessment of Entergy=s performance relative to the groundwater contamination conditions. Following the presentations, Entergy and NRC representatives addressed questions posed by various members of the public relative to the current groundwater conditions, plans for long-term monitoring, and future inspection.
