DESCRY'TIONOFTESTMETHODSThetestprocessstartedwithstaticteststrokestoverifytheproperinstallationofthedataacquisitisystemsandtomeasurestaticunseatingloadmagnitudeandrepeatability.LLEKRATTLocalleakratetestsofthevalveswereperformedtomeasureseattightness.Thesetestswiperformedatmultipletorqueswitchsettingsinsomecases.DPTestsintheopendirectionwereperformedbypressurizingthevalvefromonesidewithhydropumpandthenstrokingthevalveopen.Testdataindicatesthatthedifferentialpressureimaintainedacrossthevalvediskwhilethediskslidacrossthevalveseat.ThepurposeoftheDPtcwastopreconditionthevalveseatsanddisksandtomonitortheseat-to-diskfrictioncoefficient.DPtestswereperformeduntilastablefrictioncoefficientwasachieved.Aseriesofpressurelockingtestswasperformedfoteachvalve.Inletpressure,outletpressure,bonpressure,andstaticseatingforcewerevariedduringthesetests.Staticbaselineteststomeasurestaticunseatingloadwereperformedbetweenthepressurelockingtests.Thcclosurestrokesforstatictestswereperformedatthesameinitialconditions(pressureandseatingforce)astheclosstrokespriortothepressurelockingtestssothatthechangeinunseatingloadduetopressurelockcouldbeaccuratelydetermined.Tomeasuretheseattightness,bonnetdeprcssurizationratetestswereperformed.Theentirevassembly(includingthevalvebonnet)waspressurizedwhileintheclosedposition.Thentheupstranddownstreampressutewctevented.Thebonnetpressureasafunctionoftimewasmeasured.To'easurethcpotentialforpressurelockingduetobonnetfiuidheat-up,thermallyinducedboypressurizationratetestswereperformedontheWestinghouseandBorg-Warnervalves.Aftervenairfromthevalvebonnetcavity,eachvalvewasclosedwhilefilledwithwateratapproximatelypsig.Thevalvebonnetwasthenheatedusinganoutsideheatsource.Thepressureofthefluidinvalvebonnetwasmeasureddirectly.ThetemperatureoffluidinthevalvebonnetfortheBorg-WavalveandthetemperatureoftheoutsideofthevalvebonnetfortheWestinghousevalveweremeasuInitialpressurizationratesbetween0.5and2.0psi/degreeFweremeasured.MuchhigherultirNUREG/CP41523C-22 1
