As a result of the inspection conducted on June 14, 1985, and in accordance I
with the NRC Enforcement Policy (10 CFR 2, Appendix C), the following violations I
were identified:

10 CFR 31.5(c)(2) requires that any device possessed pursuant to 10 CFR 31.5(a) be tested for leakage of radioactive material and proper

operation of the on-off mechanism and indicator, if any, at no longer than six months intervals.
Centrary to the above, as of June 14, 1985, a sealed source containing 4 I
millicuries of cadmium-109 had not been tested for contamination or
. leakage since October 1, 1984, an interval of more than six months.
l This is a Severity Level IV violation (Supplement VI).

Pursuant to the provisions of 10 CFR 2.201, Mobile Pipeline is hereby required

to submit to this office within thirty days of the date of the letter which l
l transmitted this Notice, a written statement or explanation in reply, i
including: (1) the corrective steps widch have been taken and the results achieved; (2) corrective steps which will be taken to avoid further violations, and (3) the date when full compliance will be achieved. Where good cause is l
shown, consideration will be given to extending +his response time.
