SUBJECT:
NRC INTEGRATED INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-289/98-08
Dear Mr. Langenbach:
On December 26,1998, the NRC completed an inspection at your Three Mile Island Unit 1
reactor facility. The enclosed report preser ts the results of that inspection which the
resident inspectors discussed with you and your staff at the exit meeting on January 7,
1999.
Your staff operated the unit safely over the period. Operators performed routine taskc well
and responded properly to several equipment conditions. Observed maintenance and
surveillance activities were properly conducted. Engineering provided good support to daily
plant issues. We found your operator workaround program acceptable, with a minimal,
non-safety significant, backlog of open items,
in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter
and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
No reply to this letter is necessary. We appreciate your cooperation.
