'JUL 0 2 1986 Docket No.:

50-482 Mr. Glenn L. Koester Vice President - Nuclear Kansas Gas & Electric Company 201 North Market Street -

Post Office Box 208 Wichita, Kansas 67201

Dear Mr. Koester:

SUBJECT:

CYCLE 2 RELOAD USING THE WESTINGHOUSE ADVANCED N0DAL CODE By your letter dated March 26, 1986, you informed the staff that KG&E planned to reference the W stinghouse Advanced Nodal Code (ANC) in support of the e

upcoming Wolf Creek Cycle 2 reload design.

The NRC staff has completed its review of the ANC and has concluded that it is acceptable for generic use in reactor core analyses. Our generic approval is documented in the enclosed letter dated June 23, 1986, from C. Berlinger, NRC, to E. P. Rahe, Jr., Westinghouse.

We have examined the 'ia+t base used in the verification of the ANC code and conclude that the Wolf Creek reactor type was included in that base.

We, therefore, conclude that the ANC code may be used for its approval purposes for the Wolf Creek reactor.

Sincerely, S
