BEAVER VALLEY POWER STATION, UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 - REPLY TO RESPONSE TO ORDER FOR INTERIM SAFEGUARDS AND SECURITY COMPENSATORY MEASURES (TAC NOS. MB4096 AND MB4097)

Dear Mr. Bezilla:

On February 25, 2002, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued an Order modifying the operating licenses for the Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit Nos. 1 and 2, to require compliance with the specified interim safeguards and security compensatory measures (ICMs) described in Attachment 2 to the Order.

By letters dated March 15, April 17, and May 31, 2002, FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company provided responses to the Order. The NRC staffs letter of May 6, 2002, addressed your March 15 and April 17, 2002, responses to the Order and granted, in response to your request, an extension of time until June 6, 2002, for your submission of the required responses for ICMs, B.2.a(1) and B.2.a.(2).

The NRC staff has reviewed your responses to ICMs B.2.a (1) and B.2.a.(2), submitted by your letter of May 31, 2002 and finds that you have satisfied the current reporting requirements of the Order.

M. Bezilla Additionally, pursuant to Section III.C.2 of the Order, by letter dated August 29, 2002, you notified the Commission that your actions taken to comply with the ICMs, as described in your responses to the Order, have been completed. The NRC will determine the effectivenes of your implementation of the ICMs through on-site inspections.
