RIN 3150-AH45: Request for Extension of the Public Comment Period for Decommissioning Planning Rulemaking.
Madam Secretary, It has come to our attention that documents have been submitted to the Commission by the Nuclear Energy Institute requesting a 90-day extension of the Public Comment Period for Decommissioning Planning Rulemaking. With this letter the University of Missouri Research Reactor Center would like to express its support for the extension request.
The proposed rulemaking sans a broad spectrum of issues, including health physics, environmental protection, decommissioning planning and financial assurance. Small licensees, such as ourselves, are finding it difficult to evaluate the impact of the rule change in all of these areas within the normal comment period. The comment period extension will result in a more thorough review by licensees and more valuable feedback regarding the rulemaking.
The University would find a timely response from the Commission on the extension request to be very useful. A timely response would greatly facilitate the planning and scheduling of the regulatory reviews and engineering analysis required to adequately respond to the rulemaking.
If we can provide further information, please contact me at 573-882-4211 or ButlerRala1missouri.edu.
