Response to Atomic Safety and Licensing Board Order Regarding Location and Method of Oral Argument In accordance with the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board Order dated November 7, 2018, 1 counsel for the NRC Staff is providing input on the location and method of oral argument.

The NRC Staff would prefer, to the greatest extent possible, for the oral argument to take place either:

  • in-person or through a combination of in-person and video teleconferencing in Rockville, MD, or
  • at a location near the proposed facility (e.g., cities of Carlsbad and Hobbs, NM).

The Staff also notes that at least one of the locations the Staff used to conduct its environmental scoping meetings, the Lea County Event Center in Hobbs, New Mexico, is likely suitable for conducting the oral argument. 2 1 Order (Regarding Location and Method of Oral Argument) (Nov. 7, 2018) (unpublished) (ADAMS Accession No. ML18311A188) 2 The Staff notes that the Lea County Event Center is owned by Lea County, New Mexico, and that the Board of Commissioners for Lea County has requested to participate in the proceeding as an interested local governmental body. See Corrected Petition by the Board of Commissioners for Lea County, NM to Participate as an Interested Local Governmental Body (Sep. 11, 2018) (ADAMS Accession No. ML18255A364).
