[External_Sender] Re: University of Utah 2016 NRC License Exam John, Thank you again for being so accommodating with our exam scheduling. However in our initial testing and operational checks we have come across a new problem and have been unable to operate the reactor on the schedule that we had anticipated. Our log power indication electronics card is not responding and we are having to repair the electronics card associated with the log power. Th is will not allow us to proceed with operations and have our students properly prepared for the exam.

We are requesting to cancel the upcoming May NRC license exam. We will hopefully have everything working and in good operational condition to proceed with the normally scheduled end of August 2016 NRC License exam.

[External_Sender] Re: University of Utah 2015 NRC License Exam Mr. Nguyen,   Our reassembly of the fission counter and then subseque nt failures on other electronics has still prevented us from starting up and operating the reactor. We are in the process of trying to finish the repairs but unfortunately we will not have our students properly prepared for the NRC exam in November due to this delay. Instead of trying to reschedule an exam date right now we request to delay scheduling the exam until we get the reactor back up and operating. Once it is up and operating we will then contact you to try and schedule a time for our license exam.

[External_Sender] University of Utah 2015 NRC License Exam

Dear Mr. Nguyen We would like to suggest a slight change in our exam scheduled for August 24, 2015 as of now.
Dear Mr. Nguyen We would like to suggest a slight change in our exam scheduled for August 24, 2015 as of now.
We would like to suggest to reschedule the 2015 Licence exam for mid October (10/12/15 or later). This summer has been particularly busy at the UNEP facility. We are in the process of replacing our fission counter (aging issue), a nd at the same time we have been conducting facility renovations (clean up of the wiring in th e control console). Due to our desire to ensure that these items were handled thoroughly and conservatively while maintaining our focus on nuclear safety, we have not been able to provide the exemplary level of training which we believe has become the standard for our candidates. We are committed to producing strong license candidates as we have proven to be able to do so in the past few years. Our goal is for our candidates to demonstrate excellent oper ating performance both during the License Examination and when conducting facility operations in the future. With this in mind, we are requesting the exam date be moved unt il the week of 12 October or later.

John, Thank you again for being so accommodating with our exam scheduling. However in our initial testing and operational checks we have come across a new problem and have been unable to operate the reactor on the schedule that we had anticipated. Our log power indication electronics card is not responding and we are having to repair the electronics card associated with the log power. This will not allow us to proceed with operations and have our students properly prepared for the exam.

We are requesting to cancel the upcoming May NRC license exam. We will hopefully have everything working and in good operational condition to proceed with the normally scheduled end of August 2016 NRC License exam.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, Ryan C. Schow l Reactor Supervisor 50 S. Central Campus Dr., Rm 1206 l Salt Lake City, Utah 84112 Phone: 801-581-4188 ADAMS Accession No.: ML16103A271 From: "Nguyen, John" <John.Nguyen@nrc.gov>

John, We have our reactor back up and operating but it does not seem to make sense to try and fit an exam in this spring.
