On January 27, 2006, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received the EntergyNuclear Operations, Inc., application for renewal of Operating License No. DPR-28 for the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station. We are currently performing an acceptance review for docketing in accordance with the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal RegulationsSection 2.101 (10 CFR 2.101), and will notify you of the results of our review. Should the NRCstaff determine that the application is acceptable for docketing, a schedule for the review willthen be provided to you.We have enclosed for your information, a copy of the notice relating to your application that isbeing sent to the Office of the Federal Register for publication.I am pleased to announce the appointment of Johnny H. Eads as the Senior Project Manager forthe safety review, and Richard Emch as the Senior Project Manager for the environmental review of your license renewal application. DPR-28 FOR AN ADDITIONAL 20-YEAR PERIODDOCKET NO. 50-271The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or Commission) has received anapplication, dated January 25, 2006, from Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc., filed pursuant toSection 104b (DPR-28) of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, and 10 CFR Part 54, to renew the operating license for the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station. Renewal of thelicense would authorize the applicant to operate the facility for an additional 20-year periodbeyond the period specified in the current operating license. The current operating license forthe Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station (DPR-28) expires on March 21, 2012. TheVermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station is a Boiling Water Reactor designed by GeneralElectric. The unit is located in Vernon, VT.
