PLANT SHUTDOWN GREATER THAN 72 HOURS On January 4,1997, Unit 2 shut down to Mode 3 to troubleshoot and repair a feedwater isolation valve hydraulic actuator pump that was cycling excessively. Other maintenance                 '
activities during the outage include repairs to a hydraulic oil cooler on one of the main transformers, an offsite electrical bus outage, and maintenance on a heater drain pump and both main te9dwater pumps. The licensee expects the outage to last approximately 86 hours and to return to Mode 1 by January 8.
The resident inspectors will monitor the licensee's activities as part of the normalinspection program.

Region IV received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the resident inspectors at 3 p.m. on January 3,1997. Region IV has informed EDO, NRR, and PA.
