Dear Mr. Martin:

Subject:

Waterford 3 SES Docket No. 50-382 License No. NPF-38 NRC Inspection Report 84-25

Reference:

LP&L letter W3P84-2386 from K.W. Cook to J.T. Collins, NRC Region IV dated 9/13/84 regarding responses to Inspection Report 84-25.

l In the referenced letter, LP&L responded to Vin 1ation 8425-01 including the specifies identified in Section 4.0 of the subject Inspection Report. At this time, LP&L would like to clarify one commitment and extend the "Date Of Full Compliance" on another commitment contained in the referenced letter.

Under " Corrective Steps Which Will Be Taken" in Section 4.a.6 of the referenced response, LP&L stated:

"MI-5-113, Calibration of Crimpers, is being revised to reflect only crimpers presently on site and in the M&TE Program."

Our commitment is changed for clarification to read as follows:

s "MI-5-118, Calibration of Crimpers, is being revised to reflect vendor technical manuals or bulletins applicable to crimpers used onsite and j

in the M&TE Program."

l l

Additionally, under "Date When Full Compliance Will Be Achieved" in Section 4.a.6 of the referenced response, LP&L stated:

i "The review of deviations from vendor recommendations, as prescribed l

in vendor manuals for safety-related and environmentally qualified l

equipment, is scheduled for completion by 4/30/85."

l An ongoing program to verify adequate documentation of decisions concerning preventive maintenance with respect to any deviations from vendor recommendations, as prescribed-in vendor manuals, has been implemented at.

Waterford 3.

To date, LP&L has performed a technical review of environmentally qualified / safety-related vendor technical manuals, extracted individual vendor recommendations applicable to Waterford 3 from

)

those manuals, and is in the process of identifying deviations from those i

vendor recommendations.

LP&L requires additional time to achieve full compliance regarding the 1

inspection item commitment. The initiation of corrective action or other j

appropriate resolution for deviations identified during this initial effort j

is rescheduled for August 1, 1985.

If you have any questions, please contact Mr. G.E. Wuller, Onsite Licensing Unit Coordinator, at (504) 464-3499.
