POLICY ISSUE NOTATION VOTE RESPONSE SHEET TO: Brooke P. Clark, Secretary FROM: Commissioner Wright
SUBJECT:
SECY-22-0098: Rulemaking Options for Revising Security Requirements for Facilities Storing Spent Nuclear Fuel and High-Level Radioactive Waste Approved X Disapproved Abstain Not Participating COMMENTS: Below X Attached None Consistent with my vote on SECY-19-0100, I agree with the staffs assessment that the existing security requirements, along with the additional requirements in the post-9/11 security orders provide an appropriate regulatory framework for interim fuel storage facilities. Time has shown that these requirements are both robust and sufficiently clear for NRC staff, licensees, applicants, and other stakeholders to apply. Therefore, I approve staffs recommended Option 1 to discontinue the rulemaking for security requirements for facilities storing spent nuclear fuel and high-level waste. I also approve the staffs recommendation to delegate the authority for the issuance of the Federal Register notice to the Executive Director for Operations.
