Land Use Calculation Package For Callaway Unit 1 License Renewal ER To SupportER Section 2.4 March 26,2010 Prepared for: Worley Parsons Prepared by: Matthew J. Neet Tetra Tech NUS Aiken, South Carolina ) 0:--r:-\o-zr-dO I 0 Supporting Information for Land Use/Land Cover for ER Section 2.4 This discussion supports land use category areas calculated for the Callaway Unit 1 site and the transmission line landscapes. Land use/Land Cover data in the state of Missouri were obtained from the Missouri Resource Assessment Partnership (MORAP). The data were generated to provide current, state-wide Land Use/Land Cover (LULC) for Missouri. LULC data were mapped using 2000-2004 Landsat 7 Imagery and coded based on previous LULC products, aerial photographs, National Wetlands Inventory data, stream network data, Wetlands Restoration Program Lands data, and expert knowledge (MORAP 2005). The LULC codes are: 1 Impervious 2 High Intensity Urban 3 Low Intensity Urban 4 Barren or Sparsely Vegetated 5 Cropland 6 Grassland 7 Deciduous Forest 8 Evergreen Forest 9 Mixed Forest 10 Deciduous Woody/Herbaceous 11 Evergreen Woody/Herbaceous 12 Mixed Woody/Herbaceous 13 Woody-Dominated Wetland 14 Herbaceous-Dominated Wetland 15 Open Water Land Use/Land Cover data were collected for Callaway (the county that contains the Callaway Unit 1 site), Montgomery, Osage, and Gasconade Counties (counties containing transmission lines). ArcGIS 9.3 Geographic Information System (GIS) software was used to convert the LULC county image file to a shapefile datalayer. ArcGIS 9.3 was then used to overlay the county boundary layer onto the LULC layer (which overlapped into neighboring counties by roughly 2 km) and clip out LULC data within the boundary. This resulted in county layers of LULC

data. In determining site LULC, the site boundary datalayer was overlaid on the Callaway County LULC datalayer to clip out LULC within the boundary. LULC in transmission line landscapes were created by first buffering out 1,000ft from the centerlines of the transmission lines. Next, all four county LULC datalayers were merged together to create one overall LULC data file. The quad county LULC datalayer was overlaid with transmission line buffers, and the associated LULC data was clipped out. To determine the area of each LULC type within the boundaries, the area of each polygon in the associated shapefiles was calculated. These areas were then totaled by LULC code to determine the total area by LULC type. Table 1 includes the LULC data for Callaway, Montgomery, Osage, and Gasconade Counties. Table 2 includes the LULC data for the Callaway Unit 1 site. Table 3 includes the LULC data for the transmission line landscape corridors. LULC data for the counties traversed by transmission lines are shown in Figure 1, while Figure 2 shows Callaway Unit 1 site LULC data. These figures are included to help show the distribution of different LULC classes.
