FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE NPF-30 QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM FOR PACKAGING AND TRANSPORTATION OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS Ref.: Quality Assurance Program Approval for Radioactive Material Packages, No. 0520, Rev. 5 Expiration Date of July 31, 2004 Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 71.101 (b) requires a Quality Assurance Program for Packaging and Transportation of Radioactive Material. Paragraph 71.101 (f) states, "A Commission-approved quality assurance program which satisfies the applicable criteria of Appendix B of Part 50 to this chapter and which is established, maintained, and executed with regard to transport packages will be accepted as satisfying the requirements of paragraph (b) of this section." The same paragraph requires the Director, Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards be informed of the intent to use a previously approved program.

The current Quality Assurance Program Approval for Radioactive Material Packages, Number 0520, Rev. 5, expires July 31, 2004. This letter is to notify you that, as allowed in Part 71, the Quality Assurance Program for Packaging and Transportation of Radioactive Material will continue to be implemented at Callaway Plant in accordance with the Operating Quality Assurance Manual (OQAM). The OQAM is maintained in accordance with the provisions of Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 50.54 (a).

Please note that the application of this quality assurance program is limited to procurement and use of packaging for shipment of radioactive materials. Design and fabrication of shipping casks will not be conducted under this quality assurance program.
