SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES) 1 DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 CONDUIT SUPPORT SPANS 1

SDAR: CP-85-19 (FINAL REPORT) l Gentlemen:

On October 21, 1986, we notified you by our letter logged TXX-6046 of a deficiency regarding the use of a nonrepresentative sample in determining i

typical conduit span calculations which we deemed reportable under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e). Our last interim report was logged TXX-6625, dated August 12, 1987.

In our last report we described an alternative approach concerning yield stress values and thread section: properties used to calculate conduit stress.

We have taken this alternative approach to calculate conduit stress using the lowest published yield stress.(Fy) of commercially available steel and a revised thread section property to obtain revised de, en criteria for the conduit support spans. We have completed our evaluation of conduit support span installations utilizing the revised design criteria and identified no overstressed conduit spans. Based upon the results of this evaluation and the design criteria document revisions previously completed, we have concluded that.no further corrective actions or physical rework is required.

Please note, the cumulative effects of all conduit supports design construction and quality issues are being reported under the reportable deficiency, logged SDAR: CP-85-34, " Conduit Support Design."

This is our final report on this issue.

Supporting documentation is available at the CPSES site for your Inspector's review.

Very truly yours,

[
