DOCKET-NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 DEGRADATION OF CLASS 1E CTRCUITS SDAR:- CP-87-85 (INTERIM REPORT)
Gentlemen:
On September 3, 1987, we verbally notified your Mr. H. S. Phillips of a deficiency involving Safety Systems Inoperable' Indication (SSII) panel.
These concerns were identified during investigations of third party inspection findings.
This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under theprovisionsof10CFR50.55(e).
Specifically, the non-Class 1E SSil panel is directly connected to Class 1E circuits without isolation. Additional analysis is being performed to' assure that the non-Class IE panel will not degrade the Class IE circuit and a fault in the panel will not affect the operability of other Class 1E equipment.
No documentation is available which qualifies these cables to Class 1E standards.
We are continuing our evaluation of the im)act of this issue u>on the. safety of plant operations. Our next report on t1is issue will be su)mitted no later than December 11, 1987.
