SUBJECT:
COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)
DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 CABLE SHIELDING TERMINATION INSPECTIONS SDAR: CP-87-96 (INTERIM REPORT)
Gentlemen:
On September 8,1987, we verbally notified your Mr. Ian Barnes of a deficiency involving inspection reports which may not, in all cases, accurately reflect the status of the actual field condition of cable shielding.
This issue is also addressed in Corrective Action Request CAR 87-106.
This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).
Specifically, in some instances the inspection records which state how cable shielding is terminated may be inconsistent with the method used to register the status.
Further technical evaluation is required to assess the possible impact of these conditions on the safety of plant operations.
Our next report on this issue will be submitted no later than December 18, 1987.
Very truly yours, IA W. G. Counsil VIP /gj c - Mr. R. D. Martin, Region IV Resident Inspectors, CPSES (3)
