COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)
DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 SEISMIC ANALYSIS OF SERVICE WATER DISCHARGE STRUCTURE SDAR: CP-87-83 (INTERIM REPORT)
Gentlemen:
On September 2, 1987, we verbally. notified your Mr. H. S. Phillips of a deficiency identified during the design validation process involving the Service Water Discharge Structure.
This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).
Specifically, Seismic Category I discharge piping penetrates the Service Water Discharge Structure.
The Service Water Discharge Structure was designed as a Non-Nuclear Safety (NNS) structure and failure of the structure.during a seismic event could cause an adverse interaction with the discharge piping and the structure.
We are continuing our evaluation and our next report on this issue will be submitted no later than December 2,1987.
Very truly yours, W. G. Counsil CBC/gj c - Mr. R. D. Martin, Region IV 1
