CP-87-47 (INTERIM REPORT)
Gentlemen:
On July 17, 1987, we verbally notified your Mr. I. Barnes of an apparent inadequacy involving the program for technical approval of replacement
{
consumables. This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under
'l the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).
i The specific observation involves the substitution of a lubricant manufactured l
by Texaco in safety and non-safety related applications.
The substitution was accomplished without certification by the equipment manufacturers that the material is acceptable for use, and without approval by the proper technical discipline.
Further, no programmatic measures appear to be established to control these activities.
Our evaluation of this issue is continuing. We expect to submit our next report by November 13, 1987.
