SUBJECT:
COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)
DOCKETS NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 TERMINAL STUDS IN PK-2 TEST BLOCKS SDAR: CP 87-09 (INTERIM REPORT)
Gentlemen:
On May 7,1987, we verbally notified your Mr. Cliff Hale of a deficiency involving terminal studs in PK-2 test blocks.
This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).
TU Electric was notified by General Electric Service Advice No.182.1 of the susceptibility of terminal studs in PK-2 test blocks to stress corrosion cracking.
These blocks are manufactured by General Electric for the CPSES 6.9kV switchgear. The susceptibility is due to the manufacturer's failure to follow required manufacturing processes for the test blocks.
j This deficiency is currently being evaluated by TU Electric to determine the impact of this issue upon the safety of plant operations. We expect to submit our next report on this issue by August 7, 1987.
Very truly yours, I'l W. G. Counsil WJH/gj i
