COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 CALIBRATION ACCURACY OF PRESSURE STANDARD (DEAD WEIGHT TESTER)

SDAR: CP-87-08 (INTERIM REPORT)

Gentlemen:

On April 20, 1987 we verbally notified your Mr. Cliff Hale of a deficiency regarding the accuracy tolerance of calibration for a dead weight tester used as a standard in calibrating pressure instrumentation.

This tester has been used in the Operation test / maintenance program. This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e). This issue is applicable to both Units 1 and 2.

The safety significance of this issue will be determined based on the results of the following action plan.

O All pressure instrumentation used in safety-related applications will be reviewed to determine the impact of calibration inaccuracies.

O Programs important to safety (e.g., cold hydrostatic tests, preoperational tests, etc.) will be reviewed for the effect of instrumentation inaccuracies, and 0

A review of other calibration standards such as temperature and flow will be performed to determine if generic calibration problems exist.
