SUBJECT:
COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)
DOCKET NOS. 50-445 SAFETY CHILLED WATER CHILLER UNITS SDAR: CP-86-18 (INTERIM REPORT)
Gentlemen-On May 21, 1986, our letter logged TXX-4820 provided notification that the issue involving difficulties in starting and operating the safety chilled water chiller units was reportable under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e). The issue identifies the failure of the Component Cooling Water (CCW) supply to
{
maintain temperatures at or above the chilled water return temperature for both the operating and standby chillers. Our last interim report logged was TXX-6175 dated December 18, 1986.
We have completed a detailed review of vendor specifications and have identified twenty-seven components served by the component cooling water system that are affected. The components will either be qualified by analysis to accept the revised CCW inlet temperature (40 degree F) or have individual component or system modifications implemented.
Presently, all vendors have been contacted to ascertain the acceptability of the revised CCW inlet temperature. The status of evaluation by the vendors is as follows:
