SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 ASME SNUBBER ATTACHMENT BRACKETS SDAR: CP-86-73 (INTERIM REPORT)

Dear Mr. Johnson:

On October 20, 1986, we verbally notified your Mr. Ian Barnes of a deficiency involving installation of ASME snubber attachment brackets. This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e). We have submitted a previous interim report logged TXX-6104 dated November 19, 1986.

Our last report identified 165 snubbers that required additional field checks to determine the adequacy of swing clearances. There are nine supports remaining to be checked.

Information provided by the field checks will be evaluated to identify snubbers with restricted movement. Any snubbers so identified will require further evaluation involving input from the snubber manufacturer, pipe support engineering, and the pipe stress analyst prior to final disposition.

Our evaluation of reportability pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e) is dependent on the results of these evaluations. We anticipate submitting our next report by March 6, 1987.

Very truly ours, Y, ' <)
