Dear Mr. Johnson On March 11, 1986, we verbally notified your Mr. T. F. Westerman of a deficiency involving a weld failure in a component of a Class 1E 6.9kV switchgear breaker. This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e). Our latest interim report, logged TXX-6033, was submitted on October 20, 1986.
In our previous report, we noted our assessment of this deficiency was contingent upon completion and receipt of the vendor's evaluation which includes design testing. Currently, the breaker manufacturer (Brown Boveri) is continuing evaluation of the established design criteria to verify breaker operability. Our overview of these activities will result in the assessment of this deficiency regarding the safety of plant operations.
These activities are scheduled for completion by March 15, 1987. We anticipate submitting our next report no later than April 30, 1987.
