SUBJECT:
COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)
DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 PRESSURE INSTRUMENT INSTALLATIONS SDAR: CP-86-19 (INTERIM REPORT)
Dear Mr. Johnson:
On March 21, 1986, we notified you of a reportable item involving the installation of steam service pressure transmitters (see TXX-4824). This is a follow-up interim report to status the corrective actions for a reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).
As specified in the previous response, engineering has evaluated all Unit I and 2 steam service installations to identify additional instruments which are mounted above their root valves without wet legs. During the redesign process for the pressure instruments mounted above the steam line root valves, an additional concern was encountered which affects this effort.
This additional concern involves a potential change in the criteria for layout and/or support design due to post-accident elevated temperatures which may affect the tubing for these main steam instruments. An integrated design approach which will address both concerns is being pursued.
We anticipate submitting our next report on this issue no later than January 21, 1987.
Very truly yours,
/'
