SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC' STATION DOCKET NCS. 50-445 AND 50-446 COMM0DITY INSTALLATION AT SECONDARY WALL DESIGN GAPS SDAR: ,CP-86-12 (INTERIM REPORT)

Dear Mr. Johnson:

1 s

On February 27, 1986, we verbally notified your Mr. T. F. Westerman of a deficiency involving attachments at, or in close proximity to, design gaps between secondary walls and adjacent walls / floors. This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item undt.r the provision of 10CFR50.55(e). Our last interim report was logged TXX'4923, dated July 21, 1986.

Evaluation of this issue involves th)ee activities. Initially, the engineering' contractors charged with design responsibility for the various installed commodities (i.e. conduits, HVAC, cable tray hangers) will evaluate incorporation of a generic displacement for horizontal and vertical movements.

These displacement values will be further refined by Gibbs & Hill for installations for which the generic value is determined not acceptable. The final activity involved in the evaluhtion of this deficiency will consist of field verifi' cation' to identify potentially unacceptable interactions between s

installations.

  • The results of these efforts will provide the information required to assess y the significance of this issue. All efforts are currently underway except the i field verifications scheduled to begin in mid-October 1986. We anticipate

, submitting our next report by November 24, 1986.

mIE N 'Very truly yours ,
