SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 SEISMIC QUALIFICATION OF HVAC SUPPORTS SDAR: CP-85-54 (INTERIM REPORT)

Dear Mr. Johnson:

On December 20, 1985, we verbally notified your Mr. R. Hall of a deficiency involving discrepancies in supplier provided HVAC support documents which could invalidate the seismic qualification of the supports. This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).

We have submitted interim reports logged TXX-4668 and TXX-4718, dated January 20, 1986, and February 28, 1986, respectively.

As built walkdowns started in April,1986, to obtain duct layout, support layout, and duct-to-support attachment information and details.

Engineering evaluations are in progress and are estimated to be completed in September, 1986. The scope of the work includes 415 of the approximately 3900 HVAC supports in Unit 1 and Common.

The supports comprise the Diesel Generator Train A and B Systems (65 supports) and the Control Room HVAC Safety-related Systems (350 supports). All duct-to-support attachments in Unit 1 and Common (1318 total) are included in the walkdown and engineering evaluation efforts.

We anticipate submitting our next report by September 26, 1986.

Very truly yours, hun W. G. Co i
