SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION DOCKET N0. 50-445 STIFFNESS VALUES FOR CLASS 1 STRESS ANALYSIS SDAR: CP-86-33 (INTERIM REPORT)

Dear Mr. Johnson:

On April 29, 1986, we verbally notified your Mr. T. F. Westerman of a deficiency involving the use of incorrect pipe support stiffness valur in the Unit 1 Class 1 pipe stress analysis. This is an interim report. r a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).

Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation (SWEC) has completed the calculations of all stiffness values for the pipe supports on Class I stress problems. Westinghouse is reanalyzing these stress problems and issuing revised pipe support loads to SWEC for review. No piping overstress situations have been encountered for the stress problems where loads have been issued. SWEC has not yet started to assess the existing supports for adequacy due to load increases.

We are continuing our evaluation and anticipate submitting our next report by August 22, 1986.

Very truly yours, A
