DOCKET N0. 50-445 JET IMPINGEMENT LOAD REVIEW SDAR:
Dear Mr. Johnson:
On March 5, 1986, we verbally notified your Mr. T. F. Westerman of a deficiency involving a computer entry error which could invalidate the jet impingement 10 1 review for high energy piping. This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).
During the design verification process of the PIPSCIN jet load program, an error was found in the input instructions which produced loads on jet targets that were not applicable. The issue is applicable to Unit 1 only.
Currently, Gibbs & Hill has been directed to determine the adequacy of the jet load calculations. Corrective action will be implemented for jet loads determined to be in error.
We are continuing our evaluation and anticipate completion of our final report by May 16, 1986.
Very truly yours, M
