CP-86-11 INTERIM REPORT
Dear Mr. Johnson:
On February 24, 1986, we verbally notified you of a deficiency involving a Unit 2 Component Cooling Water (CCW) pump impeller.
This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).
Our evaluation has shown the indications appear to be the result of casting shrinkage cracks.
Since the indications have been observed on both Unit 2 installations and the replacement " spare" impeller, we have expanded this issue to include the Unit 1 installations. This action was necessary since investigations have indicated the CCW pump impellers provided by the supplier (Bingham-Willamete) for both units were manufactured using a typi-cal casting.
We are continuing our evaluation nd anticipate submitting our next report by June 13, 1986.
