TXX-4108 February 80 1984 ATTACHMENT Diesel Generators Defective Push Rods Description

~

During maintenance,' defective push. rods were observed in the Unit 1 diesel. generator engines. Specifically, linear indications were identified in welds between the " ball" and " rod" on two (2) primary and (1) intermediate push rods. Site engineering has determined the concern'is applicable to all push rods in both Unit 1 and 2 diesel generator engines. The condition is documented on Site Nonconformance Report.

Safety Implication In the event the defect had not been detected, operability of the diesel generator' engines could not be assured.

Corrective Action The defective. push rods will be removed and scrapped. Replacements have been-requisitioned ~and will be installed before operation of Units 1 and 2..
