10110 l

Dear Mr. Madsen:

On February 17, 1981 in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55(e), we verbally e

l reported to your Mr. R. G. Taylor a deficiency regarding a Westinghouse valve that failed to close completely under pre-operational test conditions.

We have submitted reports logged TXX-3288 and TXX-3322 dated March 13, 1981 and May 21, 1981 respectively.

As stated in our TXX-3322, it is anticipated that we will submit our final report on the Westinghouse three and four inch valves by October 16, 1981.

Subsequently, we have been advised by the supplier that the closure problems could also be anticipated on 6, 8,10,12,14,16 and 18 inch valves.

We J

are currently conducting an evaluation of these additional valves.

We expect to advise you of the results of our engineering evaluation, impact and corrective action schedule by October 1,1981.

If we can provide any additional information, please advise.

Very truly yours, l

A.
