UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 February 26, 2018 ALL AGREEMENT AND NON-AGREEMENT STATES STATE LIAISON OFFICERS TRIBES WITHIN 50 MILES OF REACTORS NOTIFICATION OF AN UPCOMING WEBINAR ON NRCS CYBER SECURITY REGULATORY PROGRAM (STC-18-016)

Purpose:

To provide notification that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff will conduct a webinar on NRCs Cyber Security Regulatory Program on March 20, 2018, as part of the ongoing State Liaison Officers webinar training series.

Background:

In response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and information provided by intelligence and law enforcement agencies, the NRC issued various Orders for Nuclear Power Plants (NPP) to address the threat environment at the time. These Orders included specific requirements that directed these licensees to address certain cyber security vulnerabilities. In addition, in recognition of the potential, cyber security related issues resulting from the increased use of digital technology, the NRC has been developing and implementing a Cyber Security Regulatory Program for all its licensed facilities.

Discussion: The NRC continues to seek ways to provide technical support for training and to engage States and Tribes on topics. This webinar will inform the audience about the history, requirements, implementation, development, future plans, and other initiatives the NRC has undertaken to put in place its Cyber Security Regulatory Program for commercial nuclear power plants and other users of nuclear materials. Through licensing, inspections, and enforcement, part of the NRCs mission is to ensure its licensees provide reasonable assurance that digital computer and communication systems and networks associated with the use of radioactive materials are adequately protected against cyber-attacks to protect the publics health and safety and to promote the common defense and security and to protect the environment.

The webinar is scheduled for March 20, 2018, from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. (ET). Participants must register in advance of the webinar at the following link:
