UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON , D.C. 20555-0001 February 12, 2018 The Honorable Mick Mulvaney Director, Office of Management and Budget Washington , DC 20503
Dear Mr. Mulvaney:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has developed the agency's Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2018-2022 , and made it available on the NRC Web site at https://www.nrc.gov/read ing-rm/doc-collections/nuregs/staff/sr1 614/v? /.
The NRC's Strategic Plan describes the strategic goals and objectives that will be used to achieve the agency's mission . The NRC's mission is to license and regulate the Nation's civilian use of radioactive materials to provide reasonable assurance of adequate protection of public health and safety and to promote the common defense and security and to protect the environment. The agency's vision is to demonstrate the Principles of Good Regulation (independence, openness , efficiency , clarity, and reliability) in performing our mission . The two strategic goals for the NRC are to ensure both safety and security in the use of radioactive materials. These goals, along with their associated objectives and strategies , correlate to the agency's central regulatory functions.
If you have any questions, please contact me or have your staff contact Robert J. Lewis ,
NRC 's Performance Improvement Officer, at (301) 415-1712 .
Sincerely, Kristine L. Svinicki
