Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Items of Interest Week Ending April 25, 2025 NRC Staff Participated in the Pressurized Water Reactor Owners Group Risk Management Committee Meeting On April 9, 2025, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) staff participated in the Pressurized Water Reactor Owners Group Risk Management Committee meeting. The staff delivered presentations to provide a status/update on the following topics: increased enrichment rulemaking, risk-informing digital I&C, the Group for Risk Evaluation and Assessment Tools Review (GREATR), the Generic Risk-Informed Process (expanding the use of the risk-informed process for evaluations), PRA Configuration Control, the Reactor Accident Analysis Modernization initiative, and the Risk-Informed Materials Assessment. These meetings continue to provide positive information exchange opportunities between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and industry on topics of mutual interest associated with risk-informed decision-making.
NRC Staff Made Public Regulatory Issue Summary 2025-03, Preparation and Scheduling of Operator Licensing Examinations On April 14, 2025, the NRC staff made public Regulatory Issue Summary 2025-03, "Preparation and Scheduling of Operator Licensing Examinations" (ML24353A178). The purpose of this Regulatory Issue Summary is to inform addressees that the NRC staff needs updated information on projected site-specific operator licensing examination schedules and on the estimated number of applicants planning to take operator licensing examinations.
NRR Staff Hosted a Hybrid Workshop on Licensing and Deployment Considerations for Mobile Microreactors On April 21, 2025, NRR staff hosted a hybrid workshop on licensing and deployment considerations for mobile microreactors. The goals of this workshop were to 1) understand concepts for mobile microreactor deployment the nuclear industry is considering, and 2) gain insights related to the NRC staffs development of strategies and/or guidance for risk-informed, performance-based licensing and regulation of mobile microreactors. This workshop included several external presentations. This workshop covered one of the high priority topics included in the Integrated Microreactor Activities Plan.
