Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Items of Interest Week Ending November 15, 2024 Staff Presentation on Small Modular Reactors and Microreactors at the Department of Nuclear Engineering at Texas A&M University On November 12, 2024, Division of Advanced Reactors and Non-power Production and Utilization Facilities (DANU) staff gave a presentation on small modular reactors and microreactors to a class of advanced undergraduates and graduate students in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at Texas A&M University.
Meeting with Officials from the U.S. Navy to Discuss the Navys Planned Deployment of Advanced Reactors to Power Domestic Military Bases and the Surrounding Communities On November 13, 2024, DANU management met with officials from the U.S. Navy to discuss the Navys planned deployment of advanced reactors to power domestic military bases and the surrounding communities. The meeting included a discussion of the various licensing pathways, pre-application engagement, recent U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) experiences with conducting non-light water reactor reviews, and ongoing and planned enhancements to facilitate timely advanced reactor licensing and deployment, including provisions outlined in the ADVANCE Act. The Navy is currently in the process of selecting vendor(s) for pilot projects that will be licensed by the NRC.
Staff Attended the PRA Counterpart Meeting that was Sponsored and Held by NextEra Energy, and Discussed Mutual Topics of Interest Related to the Application of Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) Tools and Methods On November 7-8, 2024, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation staff, along with the regional senior reactor analysts, attended the PRA Counterpart Meeting that was sponsored and held by NextEra Energy, and discussed mutual topics of interest related to the application of probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) tools and methods. Specifically, the topics that were discussed included use of PRA in current oversight and licensing activities, the reactor oversight process and significance determination process, recent inspection findings, recent trends in oversight and licensing, and industry perspectives. The counterpart meeting was very well-received and allowed for a venue to share insights regarding PRA issues across the agency, industry, and NEI.

Office of Administration Items of Interest Week Ending November 15, 2024 Organizational Development (OD) Services for the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission On November 8, 2024, contract number 31310025C0003 was awarded to Human Capital Resources & Concepts Inc. in Lakeland, FL. The purpose of this contract is to provide Organizational Development (OD) services that supplement the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions resources through executive coaching and OD interventions. The period of performance is from November 18, 2024, through November 17, 2025, with four option periods.
The total potential value of the contract can be up to $4,175,572.04.
