National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Center for Neutron Research (NCNR) Test Reactor
On June 5, 2024, the NCNR test reactor restarted for the first time since shutting down in August 2023 for planned maintenance activities. NIST plans to operate and shutdown daily during weekdays only at a self-imposed power limit of 200 kW to conduct operator training and to meet operator requalification proficiency requirements. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission inspectors continue to monitor the licensee's performance.

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Issued Revision No. 5 of Certificate of Compliance No. 9362 for the Model DN30 Package to ORANO NCS, Germany
On June 11, 2024, the NRC staff issued to ORANO NCS, Germany, Revision No. 5 of Certificate of Compliance No. 9362 for the Model DN30 Package (ML24159A020). The revision improves the thermal performance of the package and included the renewal of the certificate for the next 5 years. The NRC staff performed this high priority review in 2 months to prevent any interruption of uranium hexafluoride (UF6) shipments in view of the time needed for international revalidations.

Support and Development for Dosimetry Analysis and Computational Tools for Rulemaking, Guidance, Licensing, Inspections, and Research
On June 10, 2024, contract number 31310024C0009 was awarded to Renaissance Code Development, Inc. in Corvallis, OR. The purpose of this contract is to obtain internal and external dosimetry analysis support for inspection, licensing, and emerging technology needs, in addition to supporting and maintaining the dosimetry analysis codes in the Radiation Protection Computer Code Analysis and Maintenance Program. The period of performance is from August 1, 2024, through July 31, 2027, with two option periods. The total potential value of the contract can be up to $2,360,925.00.
