SUMMARY

OF OUTREACH ACTIVITIES AND EDUCATION

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Artificial Intelligence (AI) Team solicited and gathered transformative ideas through internal outreach and educational efforts. Interactions with internal NRC stakeholders included more than 25 presentations at regional, office-, and-division-level meetings. The NRC AI Team also hosted three open houses with all NRC offices to guide the development of its AI use cases and conducted two webinars on two separate AI products to educate the NRC staff about their potential applications. Participants in these meetings discussed the viability of ideas raised, and internal experts made recommendations in the areas of data science and AI.

To encourage agencywide participation in collec ting use cases, the NRC AI Team engaged the following NRC offices:

  • Commission-Reporting Offices: Office of Co mmission Appellate Adjudication, Office of the General Counsel, Office of International Programs, Office of the Secretary, Office of the Chief Financial Officer, Office of the Executive Director for Operations (EDO)
  • Chair-Reporting Offices: Office of Congressi onal Affairs, Office of Public Affairs
  • EDO-Reporting Offices: Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research, Office of Enforcement, Office of Investigations, Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response, Region I, Region II, Region III, Region IV, Office of the Chief Information Officer, Office of Administration, Office of the Chief Human Capital Officer, Office of Small Business and Civil Rights

In these meetings, offices had an opportunity to ask questions, share initial thoughts on the AI use case requirements, and explore partnerships with other offices.
